     Well its what we gamers and Linux users have been waiting for! We've all heard about Valve's SteamOS rumors and now it's here, at least in beta.  Right off the bat, I only have one complaint and that is the fact it's based off of Debian not Ubuntu, yet STEAM prefers us to use Ubuntu for gaming for Linux.  They mention on their forums that they chose Debian as core for the OS because its easier to develop their new OS.  Oh well it's just going to damper over some of the Android Developers out their that are into gaming. At least Debian based SteamOS includes Apt so we can use are knowledge of apt-get to easily install our sources.  I am new to Android development and am starting to compile roms. Anyways I was tired of Ubuntu's Unity launcher, right on time to test SteamOS beta which is available to the public. Not recommended for less experienced Linux users at the moment.  Below I will link to the downloads for SteamOS.  You need a USB drive and have it formatted to FAT32 via Window's disk management or GParted in Linux.  This link will link to my Forums SteamOS topic, feel free to sign up. Share this forum with your friends and others who want to try out SteamOS.  As far as I know of SteamOS at the moment can still only play Linux Steam games, but mabey they can create a program like wine for the SteamOS only that will run Steam Windows games or even all Windows games if they wanted to bring all gamers and developers to SteamOS.  Shortly I will have a YouTube video of SteamOS.  Steam is also hosting a contest to see who out of 300 people in the world well be able to test they SteamOS box , hardware. Cyanogenmod 11 - Android 4.4 KitKat

Cyanogenmod 11 - Cyanogenmod + Android 4.4.1 KitKat

     Cyanogenmod  is a popular 3rd party aftermarket firmware for Android devices.  Cyanogenmod is also the base of most custom ROM's for Android as they always release new versions and debug the bugs. Anyways Cyanogenmod is the first source to publicly release Android 4.4 including the newest 4.4.1.  Their ROM with android 4.4 is called Cyanogenmod 11, to get this go to Cyanogenmod's downloag page. Then search for your device, via its code-name. Now click on nightlies and you should see Cyanogenmod11 with 20131312 or the date of the day you are going to put the rom on the device which is the latest nightly for your device.  Note that Cyanogenmod nightlies well have some bugs but will be fixed soon hopefully via their next nightly.  You must have your device unlocked and preferably S-Offed to flash Cyangenmod.  If you don't know how Google it or search XDA forum which is a community for Android users and developers including windows phones.  If your a developer a link to Cyanogenmods source code well be here.

Intro to Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander

Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander Tips N Tricks part 1

     When you first get Ubuntu 13.10 you might have trouble understanding the basic concept of Linux in general especially if you're new to it.  
     When you finish installing Ubuntu 13.10 aka Saucy Salamander you'll recognize a completely new UI. The launcher is combined with Unity and Nautilus. Nautilus being the graphical part of the UI. Including the store and other apps. So if Ubuntu asks you to restart Nautilus make sure you're done with what ever your doing and have it saved.  Ubuntu 13.10 like all other versions comes with the Ubuntu Software center, Ubuntu 1 (their cloud based system for music and files etc.)
     Whats special about Ubuntu?  Its a Linux based OS which is made for developers. Or say Android developers.  One thing you'll notice if switching from Windows is that the command prompt is now called Terminal.  Its different then the Mac Terminal so don't go trying those mac commands.
     A little starter  before Tips N Tricks #2. In the Terminal to locate to a directory with in the home folder cd example_folder.  You can also direct to directories within directories.  cd job/job1 which will take your terminal to the folder with in job or folder 2.  To go back one directory enter cd ... to go back to the beginning just type cd enter.  To get root access type in sudo -s and then enter your password.  
     When entering passwords in the Ubuntu terminal nothing shows up! Not even hidden dots.  I recommend downloading a app called Unity Tweak Tool for Ubuntu in the Software Center.  This tool allows you to tweak the Ubuntu look and feel.  Dont mess with it unless you know what it does. Ill teach some stuff coming up. You can change themes from Unity Tweak Tool too.

Choosing your Linux Distribution

  I re visit my two favorite Linux distributions.  Ubuntu and Linux Mint.  What is a Linux Distribution? A Linux distribution is a off brand of Linux made by another company such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Their are many other kinds of Linux distro's (distro's is another term for Linux distributions.)  In my opinion I prefer Ubuntu because they have great support and you can easily update your system when there is a new release. While on disto's such as Linux mint you have to re install everything.  Ubuntu and Linux Mint also have great support and community forums.  Ubuntu is on version 13.10 codenamed Saucy Salamander.  While Linux Mint just released Linux Mint 16 codename Petra.  Their are several kinds of Linux Mint.  Cinammon which has a kind graphical user interface, Matte which has a lesser UI and takes some more practice and knowledge of Linux also it is de-bloated which means it comes with less software pre-loaded onto the OS.  Lastly there is XFce which had more pre-loaded software and a  easy to use graphical interface.  Each version has its on UI and takes time to learn especially when switching from Windows.  Back to Ubuntu which has a software center such as Linux and it also had Ubuntu 1 which is Ubuntus cloud software and music store.
